WHEN DO I NEED
A BUILDING PERMIT?

A building permit represents the City of Lancaster’s authorization to begin construction. Most work involving new construction or remodeling requires a building permit. Work classified as maintenance does not. If you are erecting, constructing, enlarging, adding to, altering, repairing, replacing, moving or maintaining a building, structure, or building service equipment, you MUST obtain a permit BEFORE work begins.
