The Department of Engineering provides Civil Engineering assistance to the other City departments, builders, developers and the general public.  The Department's activities can be divided into five main areas of responsibility, as listed below:

Ø      Provide civil engineering assistance to other City departments

• Prepare/review construction drawings

• Assist in bidding and administering improvement projects

• Assist in outside consultant selection

• Assist in layout staking

• Locate right-of-way and property lines

• Maintain maps and GIS

Ø      Administer the City's capital improvement program

• Prepare/review construction drawings

• Develop and update construction and material specifications

• Develop and update standard drawings

• Inspect and monitor infrastructure construction

• Administer bidding process

Ø      Management of the City's environmental program.

• Administer and manage City's Wellhead Protection Program

• Sampling and analysis of City's monitoring well system

• Monitor, manage and maintain City's closed Stonewall Cemetery Landfill

• Administer and manage City's Brownfield Redevelopment Program

Ø      Management of the Stormwater Program

• Inspect Stormwater Facilities

• Manage Stormwater Utility Program

• Implement NPDES Phase 2 Permit

• Coordinate Stormwater Programs among City Departments

Attention:

As of January 1, 2005 the primary responsibility for administration of the City's Zoning Code and Residential Building Inspection program shifted to the City's Certified Building Department.  The Department of Engineering will assist them for a transitional period, but the primary contact for these matters needs to be the Building Department.
