Frequently Asked
Questions
What time do I have to have my trash out?
No later than 7:30 AM, the day of your trash pick up.
How do I dispose of paint?
Old latex paint can be dried up and disposed in your
trash. It poses no environmental threat. We will not
accept it in liquid form though. You can speed up the
drying process by adding an absorbent such as kitty
litter, floor dry or sawdust. When dry, then set paint
cans out with your trash, without the lids on. We will
leave all paint cans with lids on and that still contain
liquid.
Do I have to put yard waste in paper bags?
No. Yard waste may be put in paper bags, plastic bags,
and trashcans. It may also be bundled in less than 4-foot
lengths. All items must be less than 50 pounds, without
breaking open when thrown into truck, or they may be left.
Why didn’t you dump my 55-gallon barrel?
All trash must be in 33-gallon trash cans or less and
must not be over 50 pounds each. We will sometimes pull
out any trash bags, but will leave the loose trash in
them. This is to prevent an employee from being injuried.
No barrels are picked up and dumped.
Will you accept credit cards at the transfer
station?
No. Only cash or a check made payable to the “City of
Lancaster” is acceptable.
Why did they miss my trash?
We very seldom miss trash. Most of the time, it is
because the resident did not have their trash out by 7:30
AM.
How do I get rid of appliances, tires and big items
that your men left?
We receive appliances, tires and big items at the
transfer station for a fee. Click on the transfer station
tab for pricing information.
